The 10th European Innovation Summit is taking place from 26 – 29 November 2018 in and around the European Parliament in Brussels.

The programme will address hot topics currently on the policy agenda, developments in sectors crucial for Europe’s competitiveness as well as a deep dive into emerging technologies. A special session will be dedicated to European elections and how MEPs play the innovation card during their campaign.Read more

Anguilla’s thematic workshop “Innovation for Tourism Growth” was great opportunity to work again with Sherma Hodge, Innovation Manager from Anguilla with whom cooperation started nearly five years ago. Jude Huston, Innovation Director of Sint Maarten was another member of the initial core innovation team. So glad working  together again.

Mangroves are the epitome of life. They harbour species and life forms that cannot be found elsewhere. But above all they are the life support of communities around the world.

Mangroves are rapidly degrading and disappearing around the world. This is of serious concern to Dr James Kairo, who has been put forward as a VUB Fellow (VUB – Vrije Universteit Brussel – Free University of Brussels)  in recognition of his unique work studying and protecting mangroves. “He is one of the most versatile and productive people I have met,” says Professor Nico Koedam.

Intellectual property (IP) lies at the heart of innovation and competitiveness around the world as well as in the European Union, and intellectual property rights (IPRs) are protected mainly through patents, trade marks and copyright. IPRs enable individuals and companies to earn recognition and/or financial benefit from what they invent or create. By striking the right balance between innovators and public interest, IP aims to foster an environment in which creativity and innovation can flourish. The EU has shaped a framework that defines and protects innovations and creations through IP. This framework mainly comprises of directives and regulations protecting copyright, trade marks, patents, designs and geographical indications. Read more

Algae are called the green gold of the future as they became a valuable and sustainable feedstock for numerous industies. They are used in production of biofuels, food, animal feed, chemicals, materials, cosmetics, biofertilizers or CO2 utilization.

In Bonaire, Algae Parc pilot project intends to increase the level of food production and economic diversification in Bonaire through the sustainable production of microalgae.

Dr. Hervé Bossin, Institut Louis Malardé

Dr. Hervé Bossin, entomologiste, responsable du laboratoire de l’Institut Louis Malardé qui a accueilli la réalisation du projet pilote d’innovation. Ce fut l’un des principaux facteurs influençant le succès de Ra’o Puha.

Le laboratoire de recherche en entomologie médicale étudie la bio-écologie de plusieurs moustiques vecteurs de maladies ou d’insectes nuisibles qui ont un impact sur la santé des populations polynésiennes. Dr. Hervé Bossin, entomologiste, est le responsable du laboratoire de l’IML dont les programmes, essentiellement axés sur la recherche opérationnelle, ont pour objectifs le développement et la validation sur le terrain de stratégies durables de lutte anti-vectorielle intégrant des méthodes innovantes et respectueuses de l’environnement.

L’ILM concourt à la préservation de la santé, de l’hygiène publique et de l’environnement naturel de la Polynésie française. Cette mission s’articule autour de deux pôles : la santé publique et la recherche scientifique.
