The Falkland Islands Innovation Strategy
The Falkland Islands Innovation Strategy aims to create an environment to encourage innovation in the islands. The strategy was centred on an Innovation Workshop, which was attended by over 40 individuals from the public and private sectors. The strategy aims to make innovation a national priority; increasing local, regional and international collaboration; increasing local research and development; improving the long-term development of people in the islands; sharing risk; and conducting regular reviews of the strategy itself.
The strategy consists or three parts; Part A – Stakeholder Consultation Results, Part B – An Innovation Strategy for the Falkland Islands and Part C – Action Plan. Part B is the strategy itself and contains 16 recommendations to encourage and promote innovation in the islands. The recommendations range from the administration of the strategy to delivering key initiatives to encourage innovation in the business community. Part B was highly influenced by the results detailed in Part A and Part C outlines a timetable to deliver the recommendations. The strategy was approved by the Falkland Islands Development Corporation in December 2015 and was made into Government policy in March 2016.
