For the 16th edition Curaçao innovates its Innovation Award
Curaçao granted its first innovation award in 1996. Since then, 15 editions of the Innovation Award were held. The award is the initiative of the ‘InnovatieCentrum Curaçao’ (ICC), which merged last year (2014) into the ‘Curaçao Innovation & Technology Institute’ (CITI) and is supported by the Ministry of Economic Development of Curaçao.
The Curaçao Innovation Award aims to raise awareness about innovation and to inspire and enable small and medium sized businesses to innovate and increase their competitiveness. The award is traditionally granted to the business with a recent innovation, which has added the most value to the economy and/or society. In 2012 a ‘Sustainable Innovation Award’ was developed when ICC joined forces with the Curaçao Business Council for Sustainable Development (Bedrijvenplatform Milieu-BPM).
In 2015 CITI will take the innovation award even further, with the addition of the themes ‘Social Innovation’, as a result of a partnership with Curaçao Cares, and ‘Youth’. This has resulted in a set of subcategories consisting of:
- Social Innovation Award
- Business Innovation Award
- Sustainable Innovation Award
- Junior Innovation Award
The overall winner will be selected from these categories and will receive the Grand prize: the Curaçao Innovation Award. Also new this year is the fact that the event will be open for the general public to attend and the public will also get to vote for the winner of the ‘People’s choice’.
Registration for one of the categories will start in September and the winner will be announced in an award Ceremony on November 22, 2015. The award ceremony will be held at the ‘Rif Fort’ for a unique experience.
